Goodbye Sweet Ines

I adopted Ines from the Hong Kong Dog Rescue shelter (HKDR) in December 2018. She had spent 8 years in the Tai Po kennel,  well loved by many volunteers.

We are blessed to welcome Ines into our Oon family. She brought joy and laughter into the house, filling our quiet retirement life with her unconditional love, wagging tail, lavish kisses and her hilarious penchant for her stuffed "toy-toy"! She settled well with Zuma, a puppy I adopted, also from HKDR,  back in 2015

Initially Ines could not eat; we soon discovered her teeth were bad from dental neglect while in the shelter. After 3 dental surgeries,  she started to enjoy her food,  though most of her teeth were gone by then.

Both Ines and Zuma enjoy their 3 walks daily.  Like clock work, they know the time of each walk and would come and nudge us, forcing us to take them out to the nearby park. I am not complaining because it is exercise for us too and  like them, we get to enjoy the greens, the flowers and the breeze.

Occasionally we bring them to the various parks in Singapore,  where they get to frolic on the grass, running,  chasing and socialising with other dogs. In fact when we were living in Hong Kong,  I used to take them very frequently to Penfold Park, Plover Reservoir and Sai Kung. Oh, those wonderful memories!

I love to see the way Ines walks. She trots gracefully with her front legs crossing over, just like a model walking down the catwalk. Such elegance and beauty!

Last October,  Ines was hospitalised for vomiting and diarrhoea.  The Vet found that she had chronic kidney disease and we started her on renal diet. She continued to lose weight and subsequent blood tests showed that both her kidneys were compromised and slowly failing.

By April,  despite treatment,  her kidney values kept deteriorating.  Vet says it has reached the end stage and advised accordingly.  We arranged for the procedure to be done at home and on 9 April 2026,  Ines, surrounded by family members who love her, was put to sleep peacefully.

Sweet Ines, thank you for your quiet presence near me, each time I work in my home office. You will be deeply missed and forever cherished in my heart. I love you!
