Contentment

I got this article from The Straits Times newspaper and thought the story is appropriate and still relevant today to teach us the meaning of contentment, that I want to share it here:

There is a story of a rich businessman who was troubled to find a fisherman sitting beside his boat after a hard day's work.

  "Why aren't you out there fishing?', he asked.
   "Because I've caught enough fish for today," said the fisherman.
   Why don't you catch more fish than you need?" the wealthy man asked.
   "What would I do with them?"
   "You could earn more money and buy a better boat so you could go deeper and catch        more fish. You could purchase nylon nets, catch even more fish, and make more      money. Soon you'd have a fleet of boats and be rich like me."

The fisherman asked: "Then what would I do?"
   "You could sit down and enjoy life," said the businessman.
   "What do you think I am doing now? " the fisherman replied as he looked placidly out to sea.
   "I'm already enjoying my life."

I am learning everyday to be contented with what I have...there is so much blessings around us if we take the time to count them; yet we tend to overlook that and think we need more, that the grass is greener on the other side. We have to learn to stop and take stock of our lives now and then; to put our time into what is more important to us deep in our hearts; into what gives meaning to our lives.

                      Great trouble comes from not knowing what is enough.
                      Great conflict arises from wanting too much.
                      When we know when enough is enough;
                      There will always be enough.

                                He who is contented is rich.
